Easter Time

img_17002 So its Easter. In our family and in the country I live in, many Christians go to church and reflect on this most holy time in the Christian calender.  However for many other non Christians it is a really lovely time to be with family and friends. Easter is also associated with the Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs wrapped in the most colorful papers.  I spent the first part of my life until I was seven in the heart of Africa then we spent time in the middle East. There were no Easter Eggs in those parts of the world in the late sixties and early seventies.  So my European mother always made sure we painted our Easter Eggs.  It was such fun.  Here is how we did it. We first boiled the eggs.       img_1693Make sure you don’t boil eggs straight out of the fridge as they will crack.  Not ideal for painting.

After the eggs dried we used either water colours or acrylic paints to paint them in any way we wanted.  It was more the joy and time spent with my mother decorating the eggs that I enjoyed rather than the eggs themselves although they were very pretty to have in the house.   I maintain this tradition with my two sons who are now 12 and 9.  We made some eggs this morning and this is the result !

Soon I will show you how to make a rabbit magnet in tapestry needlework !  Fun for the kids too if they are not too busy with their computers!

In the meantime Happy Easter and Happy Crafting and Threading !
