Pensive Cat
12 June 2009
One of the most popular blogs I have written concerned a Cat and the Rain. For some reason it seems to have attracted more attention than anything else I have written about on this blog. I did hear on the radio recently that cat’s are so popular that soon the internet will be filled with pretty much nothing else but stories and pictures of cats. For some reason cats capture our imagination. Consider the huge popularity of the wordpress blog “I can haz cheezeburger”. I love that blog its wonderful and the pictures of so many cats make me happy everyday.
The above photo was taken last year while I was on holiday an an overseas resort in Asia. The cat had just given birth to a litter and was obviously tired. She is the saddest looking cat I think I have ever seen.
I love cats and always have. They are graceful, agile, soft and at times very cute but they can also be aloof. They don’t follow you around like a dog does and they will do their own thing. They don’t pretend to like you and they mostly see you as someone who feeds them when they are hungry or pats them when they need a bit of affection. I love that about cats. No pretences.
My kids have asked whether we can buy a Russian Blue. I am thinking about it.
In the meantime I thought that as so many people love cats why not design a small free cat chart that you could quickly stitch with wool and canvas and turn into a fridge magnet perhaps. As I have said in my recent blogs this month is a very busy month for me at work as we head to meet 30 June deadlines. Still, I am hoping to try and have the chart completed this weekend. Fingers crossed.
The thought for today as I head into my Friday is a quote from one of my most favorite books by Don Miguel Ruis “The Four Agreements”. If you can, buy a copy of the book and read it because it has changed my life and maybe it can do the same for you. The passage is about one of the four Agreements which is about not taking anything that anyone else says or does personally.
“Nothing other people do is because of you. It is because of themselves. All people live in their own dream, in their own mind; they are in a completely different world from the one we live in. When we take something personally, we make the assumptions that they know what is in our world, and we try to impose our world on their world…..There is a huge amount of freedome that comes to you when you take nothing personally…”
The passage is so powerful. When I finally understood that I was responsible only for my own actions and that anything that someone else did or said to me reflected only themselves I was able to take control of my life and ignore many situations and events that in the past had caused me pain and grief. It was a turning point in my life.
So take care on this most beautiful of Friday mornings and Happy Threading !
