Wednesday 3 February 2010

As I write this post I am sitting in a hotel in New York, USA.  Yes it took me 35 hours of traveling time door to door to be here for a week of meetings.  I flew in on Monday and I leave again on Friday.  I have back to back meetings and not much time for shopping or seeing much of New York.  Maybe next visit I can have a little more time.

It’s my second night here and I can’t sleep. It’s about 3.00 a.m in the morning. It’s also cold and it was snowing this evening as I left the office with my colleagues.  Only a few days ago it was 38 C and a hot northerly was blowing at home !  This planet is a beautiful and amazing place and I am lucky enough to witness it from two perspectives in a short period of time.

Before I try to catch some sleep again ahead of a busy day, I thought I would share with you a free little chart I have designed while on my long trip here.  It’s a tiny alphabet chart for the letter A.  It’s the beginning of a series of an alphabet series I am designing but it is going slowly.

So the chart looks like this when stitched although the stitched images comes from my computer as I have not actually had time to stitch it.  You get the general impression.

I have mentioned this before, but it would so nice if you download the free chart to stop by and say hello and leave a comment.  It will only take a minute and it would be very nice to hear from you !

Before I leave I thought I would refer you to a gorgeous blog called Little Cotton Rabbits.  It is a knitting site and the knitting is exquisite as is the blog.

The blog is owned by Julie who says “I‘m Julie – wife, mum of 2 and knitter. My son is severely autistic and so life is a bit of a rollercoaster ride. I write a little about our experiences in the hope of helping others in a similar situation and to give a little insight into some aspects of life with an autistic child. I also write a lot about knitting about which I’m passionate – it has helped keep me sane through some of the more difficult times with my son.

I hope you visit the blog because it’s gorgeous and well worth a visit.

So I am off to sleep (or try at least to sleep).  I leave you for now and I may not blog again until I get home as my days will be very full with lots of work and traveling home again.  In the meantime, be happy and stay safe !

Hibiscus Heart

Saturday 30 January 2010

What a busy week !  Lots of things going on in my life at the moment which is why there has not been many blog posts this week.  Next week will be just as busy.  Today is Saturday morning and I am catching up on everything including my blog.

This morning I thought I would put into different catergories many of the blogs I visit from time to time from around the world.  Not all the blogs are in the list yet but I will add to the list as I find blogs I enjoy reading and visiting.

I also wanted to thank Aurelle in France for linking to my site yesterday.  Merci Aurelle !  I am sure you have visited her site already but if not it is a very good and informative blog on cross stitch and lost of other cool stuff.

I took the photos of the Hibiscus from a beautiful tree growing in my garden.  Hibiscus are usually bright red or orange but this is a variety of Hibiscus with beautiful pink colors.  I love the colors in the centre of the flower.  I had some fun converting the photo I took into a cross stitch.   This is the result.

I am in the process of putting the chart together in both cross stitch and needlepoint and it will be available in the next day or so exclusively on the Happy Threads Shop.  I’ll let you know when it is in the store.  Hopefully tomorrow together with another chart I am working on today also.  I just need more time !

In the meantime here is the free chart for today.  In keeping with Valentines Day theme it is a little heart plant.  Yes I know there is no such thing but I like things a little different.  You could stitch it with or without the background and it is a cross stitch design.

Tuesday 26 January 2010

The kids are due to go back to school after the school holidays this week.  They had 9 weeks off !  Yep 9 whole entire weeks and they are ready to go back to school.  This past weekend was full of book labeling and book covering activities.  Buying new school shoes and uniforms was mandatory as the little feet, legs and arms had all grown a few inches in the past few months.

Everything looks shiny new again as the books, new lunch boxes, clean school bags and uniforms are lined up ready for the new academic year.  Another year full of promise, excitement and adventure.  As I watch them grow I am reminded that time is passing by quickly.  It makes me happy but also sad as I sometimes wish I could capture moments in time with them for a bit longer.

Today’s free chart are little plants.  Before I offer you the free chart I thought I would indulge myself by sharing with you a passage from Eckhart Tolle’s new book “A New Earth”.  If you have not read it yet then it is worth doing.  The book is very deep and requires concentration and reflection.   In one passage in the book Mr Tolle talks about flowers and says;

“..As the consciousness of human beings developed, flowers were most likely the first thing they came to value that had no utilitarian purpose for them, that is to say, was not linked in some way to survival.  They provided inspiration to countless artists, poets, and mystics.  Jesus tells us to contemplate the flowers and learn from them how to live.  The Buddha is said to have given a “silent sermon” once during which he hled up a flower and gazed at it………Seeing beauty in a flower could awaken humans, however briefly, to the beauty that is an essential part of their innermost being, their true nature.”

Inspiration indeed.  No matter how many flowers I buy or see in nature they always give me joy and make me happy.

The little chart below is very simple and would be suitable for a beginner.  I hope you enjoy this little freebie and that you have some use for it in your life.

I have also designed a few new charts for the Happy Threads Shop.  There is a series of five charts which will be available in one PDF download.  Look out for that soon.  In the meantime enjoy your day !

Sunday 24 January 2010

Hello again !  I have had the most fabulous weekend and time out.  I have designed lots of new charts all with hearts on them !  I thought I would experiment with an abstract heart this weekend and share it with you.  I hope you like it as it is a little different.  It’s about exploring the boundaries.

I also took the photos above as they were all about white flowers and they are my favorite.  I love all flowers of course but the white ones particularly are special for me.

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing I hope it is what you want to do and that you are enjoying it.  If you have to work I hope you have a day off real soon to do some stitching of course !

So here is the free chart for today.  Abstract Heart.

Thought for the day is;

“Quitters never win and winners never quit”.

Does this apply in your life at all ?   It is one of my favorite sayings because every time I think I have had enough or can’t go on I remember this saying and I keep going.

Happy Threads 2010 new developments

January 20th, 2010 · Summary of all previous posts

Completed abstract rose needlepoint

Completed abstract rose needlepoint

20 January 2010

I finished the abstract rose needlepoint.  I really like it and would like to keep it but it is a present for someone but I thought I would show you how it looks finished before I send it off.

I also wanted to let you know about the new 2010 developments for Happy Threads.  As creating charts is not a full time activity for me yet I have decided to use the limited time I have to continue creating quick fun little charts.

Some of the 2009 free Happy Threads charts will gradually be removed.  I intend to start removing a few selected charts in about a month so.  I will let you know as I go along which ones are to be removed to ensure you have some time to download them if you have not already done so.  These charts will be repackaged and updated and released as the best of Happy Threads series through the Happy Threads store. Each year I will do the same with a some of the free charts for that year.

I am in the process of designing 10 or so new charts which will be available only through the Happy Threads Store and then only for a limited time.  I need to make room for all of the new designs each year so old designs will be removed and will not be available indefinitely.  This will keep the Shop fresh.

The free charts will continue to be produced on the blog.  At least two free charts a week will be released for the rest of the year give or take a chart depending on what else is going on in my life.

So there you have it you have been updated.  For those who have visited and continue to the visit the blog a big thank you to you.  I hope you continue to enjoy the blog and the designs and that you will visit me often in 2010 and better still leave a little comment.  That would be great.

In the meantime remember to “Follow your Bliss”.

Kitty covers his head

Kitty covers his head

19 January 2010

My cat decided he did not like having his photo taken last night.  The flash went off in his face (it was an accident) and he decided to cover his head.  Poor little kitty !

Today free chart is another one for valentines day.  You can change the colors as you like but this is the color combinations that I chose.  The chart might take a bit of time to stitch.  To save time you could stitch it without the background.  It is entirely up to you.

Monday 18 January 2010

Mid month already.  The weeks are flying by again and I say that every year.

I have been stitching the abstract needlepoint chart which I created and posted on my blog last week.  You will see that I am adapting the design to suit how I feel.  I like to take a chart particularly one that is a little abstract and just stitch as I please.  It is an “organic” way to stitch and gives you a random result.  I have not finished it but thought I would show you my progress. I am also stitching it on plastic canvas which leaves the needlepoint nice and straight.  Once I have finished stitching it I will transform it into a little card for a friend of mine.

Afternoon rain

Afternoon Storms

16 January 2010

Saturday afternoon.  Lazy afternoon.  Not much happening.  Storm clouds in the sky and they looked so dark that I just had to take a photo of them.

Since I started my blog I have created many simple and fairly conventional charts.  Lots of flowers and pretty little this and pretty that.  Although I quite like designing those, today I thought I would create something a little abstract.  An abstract rose and believe me it so abstract you might think it does not look like a rose at all. Anyhow I really like it and plan to stitch it myself.

Cross stitch a tiny valentines day chart

January 14th, 2010 · General cross stitch patterns, Summary of all previous posts

Pink Petunia14 January 2010

Valentines Day is a month away.  I thought I would design a tiny little cross stitch design which you could stitch for a valentines day.  It will take you about an hour or so to stitch and it could then be made into a valentine’s day card.

In fact I have been reflecting on my blog and the charts I design.   I have decided that Happy Threads will specialize  in charts for busy people who want to make something quick for a birthday, valentines day, Christmas, Halloween or just because.

I stitched the chart last night.  I love the fact that it was so quick.  I will create a little card from it.
